Olivia's Blog

 So we are in Lockdown which was unexpected. But I have been doing at lot like Baking, Drawing and Coloring, Playing with animals, Training for cross country and  annoying my siblings. I also have been doing puzzles with my sister. Last night My Dad, My Brother,  My sister's and I made Smores they were delicious if you do not know what Smores are the are biscuits with chocolate, marshmallows with one more biscuits and it is like a biscuit sandwich.   Today I am or some other day  going to make a hutt in my lounge with my lounge suite and it will so cool I will add some photos later  

 This week I worked with Bella and we made a witches house and her and her cat. The story we read today was Mrs Blackhat it was such a cool story because the person that read made her voice actually sounded like a witch.  My favourite part was the science book that I added into the house 

  This week for Play, Make and Create I worked with Heidi and we made our own Café with a cash register with money inside of the cash register we also made a fundraising box with money also inside of it next to the fundraising box is the menu's for the kids and adults with a drinks menu aswel we also made a Kids Activity Pack for the kids at the Café if they get bored waiting for the food which would most likely not happen because at H and O's we make sure that the customer's aren't waiting to long. The prices are really cheap. 

 This week fro Play, Make, Create we read a book called We are all EQUAL. It was a story about if someone is bigger or smaller than you we are all still equal and it doesn't matter about the size you are.   I worked with Kiarna. We made a playground for a snake that we called Snorty and a panda that we called Dotty. We did those animals because they aren't exactly the same they both have a difference like they eat and do different things. My favourite part was the swing that we made. I think that next time we should try to add a bit more colour or add some of the animals friends. We also made a rock climbing wall.

 

 This week for Play, Make, Create I made a rainbow collage. I go put into a group with the teachers to help me with my learning a bit because I haven't really been getting my work done but today I worked by my self I think for now on I should start working by myself. When I started making the rainbow I just drew lines so  it would of been just a colour chart not a rain bow collage. I had so much fun doing this. this week. My favourite part was probably cutting and gluing the pictures from the magazines. 

 This week for Whetu Challenge we did Can you Build This which is where we had to work in 4's or 3's and had to make tower out of newspaper . I worked with Brooklyn, Olivia.M, and Katara. We had a bit of struggle at the start and then we figured some different ways to try to build. Katara was cutting and giving the sellotape to us and Olivia was making the tower, Brooklyn and I were rolling the newspaper tightly. I had the best time. This week was a lot better than last week because last week I worked with a couple of people that did not work really well. We make a frame this time and it made the tower stand very good but at the end when we had to finish up it fell over.

This week for Play, Make, Create I worked with Azahliah and we made a necklace out of wool we also made a bracelet. The book we read was called Theodore the Unsure By Pip Smith. It was about a lion who had a massive mane that grew and grew he was also the king of the Savannah. He cut his mane off and gave it to the snakes for wigs, The Penguins also had a wool jacket and so did the Polo Bears. I think the hardest part was poking the string through the very small hole. I hope Ms. Coles likes it. The easiest part was probably the watercolor. My favorite is going to be giving it to Ms. Coles. 

Friday the 14th 2021   So last year we had a kite day but it happened when we were in lock down and some people were at school but not many.Last week on Friday we had another kite day we made the kites in Whetu Challenge time we had two hours to make our kites and I worked with Heidi. The materials we use were Paper, Felts, Bamboo, Ribbon, String, one Stick and Duct tape. The challenging part was probably sticking the ribbon onto the paper with the duct tape because the tape didn't quite stick and I was getting a bit frustrated so I stuck another piece of tape on. Our Kite didn't fly on Friday but on Monday it was a bit windy so everyone in our class and flew there kites and most of them flew with the wind like ours did. I think the reason why our kite didn't really fly was because the duct tape was a bit too heavy.

 This Week for Play, Make, Create,  I worked with Bella and George and we made a massive hutt with 2 rooms and a washing line.  The book that we watched was called Be You it was about being yourself.  the Challenging part was clipping the pegs to the trees because the trees are thin and the pegs just slipped off when the wind blew.  The easiest part was probably making the washing line.  I decided  to work with different people this time because I wanted to see who I could work with better. We use pool noodles, tarpaulin's, string, pillows and pegs. 

 This week for Play, Make and Create the story was called Up The Creek by Nicholas Oldland. I worked with Emily.P and we made the olden day cup phones, decorated it with lots of color. In he book the task was to make something for the Bear, Beaver and the Moose to communicate to eachother. The cup phones that we made actually worked and I was very happy even though I have done this sort of  thing before it was still very fun. The most Challenging part was probably making the Walkie Talkie's that were made by cardboard. We use Plastic Cups for the Cup and string to connect to Emily's cup. The cups can go 11 feet away and it will still work. To make it work you have to make sure the string is straight and then one person will talk and the other person will listen then swap. 

Whetu Fun Day Last Thursday we had a Whetu Fun Day as our camp was postponed.  Our teachers planned a fun day for us instead!  We participated in a Whetu Amazing Race, a range of different fun rotations, a BBQ lunch and play on the council playground then we finished the day with an Easter Egg hunt and an ice block. My favourite part of the Amazing Race was working in a team with people that I had never really worked with. Working as a team and if one of us got stuck we would help each other. In my team there was 6 of us Kiarna, Azahliah , Eleanor, Uvini, Levi D and Myself. Our Coach was Rachel. The rotation I enjoyed the most was Picasso Bunnies with Mrs Loft because I wanted to try something different and new because I am not really a person that likes to draw but I found it really fun. During the Easter Egg Hunt I found my stick in the picnic table by the Hall Deck I was the 1 st girl back even though Mrs Kennedy...

 This morning at school we did a maths mystery and I worked with Chloe and we got the Culprit right it was Mollie. We did struggle on some of the of the question so Mrs Fraser and Mrs Heaven had to help me and Chloe. But we got it right in the end. Yay we did it. 

 Today for play make create I made a campground with a bush are a campfire with a walkway to the beach while I was making it I kinda burnt my leg with hot glue bc it dripped on my leg. The hardest part was probably making the outline of the campfire bc they would not quite stick bc of the moss of the sticks. The easiest part was throwing the bark on the pva glue and sticking the things on.  Today I decied to work by myself bc I find it calming to work by myself.  

This week for play, make, create I worked with Bella and myself and we made a piece of art that is called Jungle dance. today we read a book called Giraffes Can't Dance. 

 Today we did Play,Make and Create which is where on of the teachers read a book and then we make some things from the story. Today Mrs Loft read a book called The Gruffalo. Bella and I made a bridge connected to a house under the bridge lived a snake and in the house lived a mouse here are some photos of the house.   

  Week 5, Term 1, 2021 Monday was our school Swimming Sports. On the day I raced in 5 different strokes. My favourite one was 2 lengths breaststroke, 1 length breaststroke, 1 length backstroke, 1 length freestyle. I am super proud of myself for doing 2 lengths. I never done 2 lengths before!!!! We had two art sessions this week and I ma with Mrs Loft and Mrs Heaven and we are doing Modigliani. Modigliani is a type of portrait but they have a very long neck almond shaped eyes and a very small mouth. In our next art session we are going to either chose to paint or pastel our Modigliani portraits. I think I might do paint and make mine a SUPERNOVA and super bright also make it POP!!!!!!! In reading this week we have been reading this book called The Magic Finger by Ronald Dahl and we are Book Detectives with Mrs Loft and Mrs Heaven. I am in a group called Mauve.   Week 4, Term 1, 2021 The most fun thing we have done during class time this week is swimming lesson's bc I am not a great swimmer and I feel that I am getting better and better every morning. I also liked doing takaro yesterday when it was just outside I did a mixture of things. First I playing on the playground with some of my friends the then I played with Chloe with the skipping ropes, Then I went to go and play with my another friend group (Scarlett, Shirley, Lola, Haven and Marley. When I am swimming I think I am improving... On my freestyle because I am always stop after one or two i stop but now I do not have to stop. I can also dive now YAY. We created our Whetū stars on Thursday and they look Amazing, the are going to look even more amazing in the night sky. Next week we have our school swimming sports. I am feeling a little bit nervous and excited

  Week 3, Term 1, 2021   Someone who has helped me with my learning this year is Mrs Kennedy at swimming I kept stopping and she told me to try my best BC I was not trying my best and then I got better and better every time when we went swimming I got better and better not to stop every stroke. The most fun thing we have done during class time is helping the year 5's so that when their Year 6's they know what to do to help the Year 5's and I just like to help people. The most fun thing that I have done at a play or lunch time this year is playing with my friends on the big blue and the monkey bars. One word that describes learning in Whetu is Challenge's Something I am looking forward to is Whetu Challenge's and moving up on Numbots!!
